This past Halloween, the Maslo Lab hosted a “Bat House Building Day”, where 29 volunteers came together and built 77 bat houses, as part of International Bat Week. These bat houses will be distributed through the Rutgers Bat House Distribution Program, run by the Rutgers Wildlife Conservation and Management Program staff. We deliver and install the bat houses for free to people throughout New Jersey who are performing a bat exclusion on their property. These bathouses will provide an alternative housing strategy for evicted bats. Preserving bat habitat is crucial, because bats of New Jersey face many pressures from White Nose Syndrome, habitat loss, and wind turbines.
